Let’s Hear from Grade 3…

MY FAVORITE THINGS...

My favorite subjects are Reading, Math and Religion. I like Reading because you get to read all kinds of books. I also like Math because I like reading a lot of numbers. And I like Religion because you get to learn about our Lord, Jesus Christ. (by: Taz )

My favorite subject is Art. I love Art because it is so creative. When I am going to grow up, I can show people that Art is my favorite thing to do. In Art I love to color, draw, paint and fold papers to make things. It is my passion. Art is really fun and exciting. (by: Nicole )

My favorite t.v. show is Sponge Bob Square Pants. I like it because he is funny and smart. Sometimes Sponge Bob lives in the ocean, but he has a job. He works in a place called the Crusty Crab. (by: Loi )

My favorite T.V. show is Hanna Montana. I like it because it shows a life of a teen-ager girl that hides her life as a pop star. She has a very good voice and she won an award for best skin color. (by: Reagan )

My favorite sport is basketball because I play it at school. It is fun. If you know how, try it. You will have lots of fun. (by John)

My favorite sport is swimming because I like the cold water in summer. If you like swimming then you can do it every weekend. In summer the water is very cold like ice cream. There are lots of dives and strokes. The dives are pencil, cannon ball and belly flop. The strokes are butterfly, pizza, freestyle, underwater, back stroke and doggy paddle. My goal is to go to the Olympics someday. (by Tianna)

MY BEST FRIENDS

My best friends are Cannen, Taz, Kimi, Angeljoy,Jessica, Antony and Amber. They are my best friends because they always play with me. They always help me with my problems and injury. (by: Justin )

Grade 4 Thoughts…

The Fourth Graders wrote essays about the value of a Catholic education in their computer class. The following quotes are excerpts from some of their papers.

Catholic schools light the way because…

"Catholic schools teach us about God and the saints…" Shaun

"They show the people the way to love one another, and to care about one another…." Lin

"They teach us good manners and that we should always respect one another…." Donovan

"Usually, teachers would be boring and mean but at St. Elizabeth School the teachers are fun and nice…."Matthew

"Everyone is friendly, I make lots of friends and learn new discoveries. At our school the teachers make learning fun….." Kady

"Catholic School lights the way for me both academically and spiritually. Whenever I go to religion I learn about saints, Mary the Mother of God, and Jesus…." Julian

The Fourth Graders also Created Poems…….

A Colorful Haiku By Matthew

The vibrant rainbow

Sits gracefully in the sky

Making me happy.

Rain By Shaun

Looking at the sky

Wonder it was the rain

Water falling down

I run to the porch

Waiting for the sun’s brightness

Just for some Lightness.

Shooting Star By Nicole

I am a shooting star

I am so very far

I live in the dark

Where other stars are.

Tangerines By Elizabeth

Delicious and Nutritious

Peel with so much zeal

Will it make me heal.

There’s so much appeal.

5th Graders Explore Their Views…

Shoe Letter By Sierra

Dear High Heels,

How is your life? I always have the best days!!! My owner takes me everywhere at the mall, school, park, parties and even church. Maybe only once a week my owner doesn’t take me anywhere. Sometimes her feet smell TERRIBLE. When I’m sitting on the shoe rack, her other shoes look at me with stink eye wanting to be worn more often like me. I just ignore them, because I am obviously the best. When my owner doesn’t wear me, all I do is sit there getting laughed at by the basketball shoes and the cowboy twins. Well I hope you can write me back.

Your friend,  Slippers

Shoe Letter By Emily

Dear Slipper,

How are you doing in Hawaii? I am out here in Texas getting beaten against a tall, brown, fat thing (which I learned later is called a horse). I am starting to get bruises all over me and my owner calls them "scuff marks". I heard him talking to his wife about getting new cowboy boots, so I have been trying to hop around getting his work done, but all I have managed to do is get my sharp rear end stuck in some brown, goopy mess which has flies circling it and smells awful. My owners feet smell bad a lot of the time and I am surprised he hasn’t hosed them off yet like he does to me. When he hurts me, I bite him and he cries. "The boot is pinching me!" I will talk to you later, because now it is time for me to go to work.

Your Friend, Cowboy Boot

Shoe letter By Alison

Dear Cowboy Boots,

Aloha! My name is Sally the Sassy Slipper. I live in Hawaii. Boy is it hot over here! Today was kind of good and bad. This morning I met my friend at the mall. We were having fun until the things that attach to my face fell off. I was so embarrassed. I had to go into a store and buy a new one. Then I went home to rest. The phone rang and it was my friend asking if I wanted to go to dinner. I said "Yes." We went to Le Slipper. I ate the slicken (chicken). For dessert I had slice cream (ice cream). "Yawn," I said. I better get home. When I got home, I crawled into the shoe rack. I turned off the light, tucked myself in, and said my prayers. It was nice writing to you.

Sincerely,  Sally Sassy Slipper

A Business Letter for the Principal…

Dear Sr. B:

I am a student at St. Elizabeth School and I am in the 5th grade. This letter is to inform you the grades 5-8 need lockers.

All students grades 5-8 of St. Elizabeth School should have on-campus lockers to store books, lunch pails, and other school supplies. These are the reasons. One reason is all cubbies are too small to store all our textbooks and other school supplies. For example, the cubbies can only carry a limited number of books, and the rest we have to carry it in our backpacks everyday. Our 5th grade classroom is cluttered with our books and school bags. There is also no space to do our classroom activities. The last reason is for all students’ safety. Lockers prevent books from tripping or falling on students, and keep the exit doors free from being blocked by students’ bags. For example, most of our bags are placed against the wall near the classroom exit doors, which can possibly lead to danger when there is an emergency.

In conclusion, grades 5-8 need locker to put all our books. It will leave more space and improve student safety. I hope you will grant my request.

Sincerely,  Anna

Peace Poem By Grace

I would like a piece of pie or cake

I also want Peace in the world

Harsher drug abuse laws

Now all I have to say is Peace

Peace in Iraq and no more war

Peace is what I want

And I want it now

Starbase Atlantis By Chloe

Starbase was the most fun I ever had. I wish I could go back and have some fun. My favorite thing at Starbase Atlantis was flying the flight simulator. The thing that surprised me the most was seeing the boiled egg go into a milk bottle. Since I saw that, I’ve been more interested in science. During our 5-day field trip, I also learned some math. Math was very fun, exciting, and enjoyable. At the computer room, we built our International Space Station model. Everyone made their own model and colored the station parts. My favorite part of building the station was putting all the pieces together. As you can see, I love Starbase and I had fun learning new things.

Starbase Atlantis Experience By Nick

I liked many things at Starbase Atlantis. My favorite was building the International Space Station. The program impressed me a lot. It was very intelligent of the creator of that program. What I like most about the program was that you could cover your parts with colors. It’s very cool. Overall, I’d say I like building the ISS. It was fun!!

Now that you know I like the ISS building most of all. I should tell you my second favorite activity at Starbase Atlantis- the flight simulator. The flight simulation felt like I was piloting a real plane. It was awesome. My favorite part was all the controls on the plane. It was impressive. Overall, I really liked both of these and hope others do to!

D.A.R.E Report by Martin

Hello, My name is Martin and I go to St. Elizabeth School, class of 2011. Today in this report I will be talking to you about marijuana, warning labels, and D.A.R.E. rules. First I’ll tell you about marijuana.

Another name for marijuana is "buds" that can lead you to death, brain cancer and many other horrible things. Not only that, but marijuana is bad for you, it’s also bad for others. Secondly I’ll you about D.A.R.E Rules.

Our D.A.R.E rules are fair because they’re easy to understand. Our first D.A.R.E rule is "Raise your hand so that only one person speaks at a time." Our second rule is "Be positive and respectful" The third rule is "Observe and use the quiet signal." And finally, the last rule is "Answer only the questions that feel comfortable to you."

Most warnings labels are on cigarette advertisements and cigarette boxes. The labels are made by the Surgeon General. Two examples of his warning labels are: 1) Quitting smoking now greatly reduces serious risk to your health and 2) This product may cause mouth cancer. There are many more tobacco warning labels but there’s too much to tell.

In conclusion we learned about many things through DARE: healthy decisions, Decision Making models, tobacco, warning labels, marijuana, alcohol, friendship foundations, peer pressure, and ways to be in charge of pressure.
